Frequently asked questions
This page covers some of the practical questions that often come up around booking, training, and what to expect when working together. If you’re ever unsure about something that isn’t answered here, you’re always welcome to ask.
Booking & payment
Do I need to pay a deposit to secure a booking?
This depends on the service you’re booking.
For the Day Train Programme, a 20% payment is required to reserve your dates.
The remaining balance is due 8 weeks before the programme is due to start.
For 1-to-1 lessons, payment is taken in full at the time of booking to secure your session.
For group classes, payment is made on the day of the class.
When is payment due for sessions?
Payment timings vary depending on the type of training.
Day Train requires a 20% payment to reserve dates, with the remaining balance due 8 weeks before the start date.
1-to-1 lessons are paid in full at the time of booking.
Group classes are paid on the day of the session.
How do I pay for training sessions?
Payments are usually made via invoice.
If you need to pay by card, this can be arranged. Just let me know and I can set this up for you.
Are sessions booked individually or in blocks?
Sessions are booked individually.
Progress looks different for every dog and handler, and training can’t be guaranteed within a set number of sessions.
Booking individually allows training plans to stay responsive to the dog, the pace of learning,
and the work being done between sessions.
Cancellations & rescheduling
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?
For the Day Train Programme, the initial 20% payment is non-refundable if dates are cancelled.
If cancellation takes place within the 8-week window before the programme is due to start,
the remaining balance is still payable.
For 1-to-1 lessons, a minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required to reschedule.
Cancellations are not usually offered, except in extenuating circumstances.
What happens if the weather is poor?
Training goes ahead come rain or shine.
Sessions will only be adjusted or rescheduled if conditions would be unsafe or detrimental
to a dog’s welfare, such as extreme heat or unsafe travel conditions.
What if I’m running late?
If you’re running late, please send a WhatsApp message as soon as possible.
If arrival is more than 15 minutes late, the session may need to be shortened,
rescheduled, or cancelled to allow the rest of the day to run smoothly.
Training sessions
Who can attend a training session?
Anyone involved in your dog’s care is welcome to attend.
For some households, having multiple people present is helpful for consistency.
In other cases, sessions work best when focused on the primary carer.
The approach will always prioritise clarity and learning.
Can children be involved in sessions?
Children are absolutely welcome, but parents should use discretion.
If having children present means attention is divided or things feel hectic,
it may not provide the best learning outcome. If children can be involved calmly,
I’m more than happy for them to take part.
What do I need to bring to a session?
Please bring any equipment you would normally use, such as your dog’s usual lead or harness.
If your dog has a favourite toy, feel free to bring that along.
I also recommend bringing your dog’s daily food allowance, as I often work with regular food
rather than treats.
Do I need to prepare anything in advance?
No special preparation is needed unless discussed in advance. Sessions are designed to meet you and your dog where you’re at.
Training approach
How would you describe your training approach?
Training plans are built around the individual dog.
That means considering temperament, drive, experience, and the life a dog is being asked to live,
and then creating a plan that supports all of that. There’s no single method that works for every dog.
Do you ever use training tools?
In some cases, yes, where they are appropriate and in the dog’s best interests.
Some dogs progress well without additional equipment. Others benefit from the thoughtful use of tools
to improve clarity, safety, and quality of life.
I’ll always explain recommendations clearly, including the pros and cons of different options.
The final decision always sits with the owner.
Expectations & progress
How quickly will I see progress?
Progress depends on the individual dog and the consistency of the work carried out between sessions. Training is never a quick fix, and the focus is always on long-term understanding.
Will training fix my dog?
Training isn’t about fixing dogs. Dogs aren’t broken.
Behaviour usually comes down to communication and understanding.
When dogs struggle, it’s rarely because they are being difficult on purpose.
Often they simply don’t yet have the structure or guidance they need to succeed.
What happens if I feel stuck or unsure?
Please, please reach out.
If something isn’t clear or you want to check you’re on the right track,
I would much rather you message and ask so things can be adjusted early.
