About Artemis K9 Training
A little insight into who I am, how I found my way into dog training, and my star employee, Dougal.
My journey into dog training
My first real introduction to dogs was very much a baptism by fire. I shared my life with a dog who seemed to defy all the rules and was entirely committed to causing chaos. We worked with multiple trainers, many of whom suggested giving up on him altogether - which was something I just wouldn't do.
That dog is no longer with me, but I owe him everything. In trying to help him navigate a human world, he completely changed the direction of my life and sparked a deep fascination with dogs and their behaviour.
Since then, I’ve studied under trainers widely regarded as some of the best in the industry, both in the UK and internationally. This has allowed me to dive deeply into the science of behaviour and learning, alongside the practical, real-world application of training dogs and supporting their people.
At the heart of my work is a simple goal: to help make a dog’s world bigger. Bigger adventures, longer walks, trips to the coffee shop, navigating busy town centres — experiences that allow dogs to move through the world with confidence. When a dog’s world grows, life becomes easier and more enjoyable for everyone involved.
About Dougal
The main man.
Dougal is my bearded Border Collie and an absolute character. Known by many names - Worm, Wormy, Doogie Boogie, Wiggles, or Swamp Boy (depending on how muddy he is at the time). He’s energetic, endlessly friendly, and always ready for the next adventure.
Anyone who meets Dougal quickly realises he has a huge personality and a lot of enthusiasm for life. He keeps me on my toes, makes me laugh daily, and I couldn’t love him more.
I believe it’s important for people to see a trainer’s own dog. They won’t be perfect - no dog is - but what matters is the relationship between dog and handler, the dog’s attitude, and how that partnership navigates the human world together. Those are the things I aim to help others build with their own dogs.
Dougal is still young, which means we have a lifetime of learning, progressing, and plenty of messing about ahead of us. The thought of that brings me so much joy. I’m incredibly proud of the dog he is, and grateful to share every day with him.
